The year that was

Today’s the first day of 2012 and I’m feeling a bit nostalgic for the year that was. Perhaps that nostalgia is partially due to the fact that new beginnings and memories are waiting to be experienced. Or perhaps it is due to the fact that I spent my last day of 2011 writing a piece about success and my opening statement was: “As another promising year starts, you can’t help but to look back on all the events that have transpired in your life thus far.” Regardless of what triggered this surge of reminiscing, I’m giving in to it.

2011 surprised me. There were so many moments wherein I thought I was just hoping against all hope but I was wrong. And I have never been more happy to be wrong. Everything turned out for the better. The best, even.

I am eternally grateful for all the blessings I have received. I am still in awe over all the obstacles I have successfully overcome. 2011 provided me with opportunities to make a difference, as well as the necessary tools to do so. I guess, sometimes it takes a really difficult incident to shake you up and make you see how capable you are. There were some problems and misunderstandings that got in the way but they all were sorted out in the end.

To the people who I have drifted away from, I hope we could reconnect and work things out.
To the people who I have met this year and changed my life, I thank you for doing so.
To the people who have helped me all throughout 2011, thank you and I hope you stay until the very end and I promise to do the same.
To you, I’m glad to know you’re still there even though I know I can get so withdrawn and distant. Thank you thank you thank you for still being there and even going a bit out of the way to help me out despite all things that have (and have not) happened between us.
To you, I hope you know what a positive force you have been in my life. Never mind that we only spent a short amount of time together, it was quality time. I savor every moment we had and will have.

Here’s to the year that was!
